Two decades back, in a consultation on State of India’s Health in Chandigarh, there was broad and general consensus that Punjab was doing better than Kerala. It was then felt that Punjab’s development model was far healthier since it was growing both in agriculture and industry.
Internal displacement was negligible due to infrastructural development of the rural areas. Lifestyle was generally wholesome and the health system was adequately equipped.
Unfortunately in the last two decades these positive developments have not been sustained leading to alarming decline in the development process of the State. The content of this document systematically captures the causes of decline of the health status of Punjab and how to arrest them.
