Amid the New Year eve’s festivities in 2016, five year old Jivika Mardi in village Lalpurin, District Kokrajhar was down with high fever. Baffled, her parents took her to the nearest PHC where she was diagnosed with Malaria and was further referred to the District Hospital. With no means to reach the hospital, the distressed parents had to bring their daughter back home.
Next Day the DPO Kokrajhar, Mr. Pranjal Dutta received a phone call from the MTS Mrs. Nirama Basumatary who informed him about the case of the child and requested if our CHV and staff could help in bringing the child to the nearest PHC where the ambulance was available to take her to the district hospital. The DPO immediately took charge of the matter and ensured that the child receives immediate medical Aid. The FS and CHV immediately came to the rescue and took the child to the PHC.
Jivika, who could have lost her life that day, is now hale and hearty due to the timely medical intervention she received. Her parents had lost all their hopes when the FS and CHV came as a blessing to them and they couldn’t be more grateful. Jivika’s father a daily wage earner expressed “We were so tensed and felt helpless. We don’t even have enough to support ourselves and had no means of taking her to the hospital. Your act of kindness will always be remembered. We have no words to express how grateful we are”. The sincere effort of the FS, Sanjay Narzary and CHV Seben Hembromis has been acknowledged. The IMCP-3 project has been able to establish that NGOs and the government can cordially work together, if there is a will and community benefit is the ultimate goal.
