What is Dengue ?
Dengue is a viral infection caused by the Dengue virus (DENV), transmitted through the bite of an infected female Aedes mosquito, mainly Aedes aegypti. It is one of India’s major vector-borne diseases, especially during and after the monsoon season, causing high rates of illness and sometimes death.

How does Dengue Spread?

  • Dengue spreads only through mosquito bites, not from person to person.
  • The Aedes mosquito breeds in clean, stagnant water found in flower pots, coolers, tyres, drums, and tanks.
  • After biting an infected person, the mosquito becomes infectious in 8–10 days.
  • It bites mainly during early morning and late afternoon.
