.World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed globally every year on 31 May to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and to advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. Initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1987, the day aims to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and to promote strategies for reducing tobacco consumption.
The 2025 theme, Unmasking the Appeal, focuses on revealing the strategies employed by the tobacco and nicotine industries to make their harmful products enticing, particularly to young people. These tactics include the use of appealing flavors, sleek product designs, and targeted marketing campaigns on social media platforms. By exposing these tactics, WHO seeks to drive awareness, advocate for stronger policies, including a ban on flavors that make tobacco and nicotine products more appealing, and protect public health.
