VHAI Response to COVID-19 Pandemic

Protecting the Frontline COVID-19 Warriors

We are providing PPE kits to frontline workers. We have distributed more than 23,450 three layered surgical masks, sanitizers and face shields to the frontline health care workers in the rural areas.

Supporting the Vulnerable Families with Grocery Kits

VHAI is supporting families in dire need (who have lost their livelihoods and have no income) with immediate relief measures such as distribution of grocery kits, to prevent them from hunger and malnutrition. We have provided support to approx. 10,560 families.

Awareness on COVID-19 Prevention and Management

Our field team along with District Government are actively working to create awareness on COVID-19 prevention and management including management of mild cases at home, COVID-19 testing and isolation measures. Till now, more than 53,476 people have been reached through our awareness activities.

COVID-19 Vaccination

The reluctance to get vaccinated is making people living in rural India more vulnerable to COVID-19 infection. We are working closely with the district health team & local self-government to encourage the local communities to overcome COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy.

Support to Rural Primary Health Centres

We are closely working with the government health care staff to strengthen Government COVID-19 programmes & other health services in hard-to-reach areas.

Helping Girls Manage their periods during COVID-19

Subsequent COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and quarantine measures are putting girls and women at a disadvantage. Many have been cut off from essential sexual and reproductive health services. To support girls in crisis, VHAI is providing sanitary napkins to the girls/women in need. Till now, we have distributed more than 36, 174 sanitary napkins.

Supporting Girls and Young Women During COVID-19

We are ensuring girls’ and young women’s unique needs are addressed and not side-lined during the emergency response. We are running a campaign against child marriage and gender based violence. Through this effort, we are supporting peer educator networks, child/women protection committees at the village level. Till now, we have capacitated more than 3000 peer educators who are working at the grassroots to support our cause.

Improving Access to Handwashing

We are creating hand washing facilities at common public places in rural areas in order to emphasize on the importance of handwashing in preventing COVID-19. This is done in the areas where there is scarcity of water. Till now, we have created handwashing facilities in 150 villages.

Rebuilding Livelihoods

  • We have provided vocational training to more than 3500 girls belonging to below poverty line families in rural areas.
  • We have given start-up support to more than 150 women entrepreneurs to initiate their business at the local level.
  • We have linked more than 5050 vulnerable families to local livelihood options as well as social protection schemes.
