In 2017, a 19-year-old Subhasmita Dash of District Ganjam, Odisha was able to convince her parents to avert her marriage and since then she never looked back. She has been associated with project MNCP as a discussion leader has been facilitating group sessions for girls group members in her village. She successfully mobilized fellow group members, Gaon Kalyan Samiti (GKS) members, community leaders, women group members and prevented three child marriage cases in her Gram Panchayat.
Subhasmita succeeded to mobilize parents of 2 school dropout girls in her Gram Panchayat for school re-enrolment with active support from fellow group members and SMC members. With support from MNCP project and Odisha Livelihood Mission, she has facilitated 26 out of school adolescent girls to join the Government Skill Development scheme- Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and other empanelled skill building institutions.
Subhasmita was awarded by Honorable Minister, Women and Child development Department, Government of Odisha in 2018 for her outstanding contribution on prevention of child marriage and promotion of girl’s education.
As a DL, Subhasmita shaped an understanding about health and hygiene, role of gender, skill development, etc. Today, she has become a Master Book Keeper (MBK) in Odisha Livelihood Mission something she never even imagined at such a young age.
