Support to Migrant TB Patients during the COVID 19 Lockdown

Nationwide lockdown was a strict measure to control the spread of the COVID 19 virus, affecting many people in the country. Migrant workers were the worst affected. They were not only affected financially but were also deprived from essential services like health care.  Migrated TB patients had to face a lot of difficulty in receiving treatment in other districts.

Project Axshya with an aim to reach the last mile provided extended support to such patients during the lockdown. In April, VHAI received a request from the Union to provide treatment support to a case that has migrated from Delhi to Kanpur during the lockdown. TB patient Jitender Yadav was finding it difficult to receive treatment amid the pandemic.

Although Kanpur did not fall under VHAI implementing districts, but with a humanitarian approach to serve the needy, VHAI contacted Jitender. Axshya DC Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh coordinated with the NTEP Team Delhi and provided all the details to STS Kanpur for treatment support. As a result, Jitender was initiated on treatment and was also given financial support through DBT. The CV constantly followed up with Jitender and helped him in completing his treatment. Jitender and his family thanked team Axshya for their support during these tough times.
