Md Samsul, living in Palwa village of Sanhaula TU, was suffering from Tuberculosis for more than 2 years. With many rounds of treatment at a public hospital, he did not improve. After a few months when symptoms persisted he was forced to visit a private doctor where he was given some medicines and was informed that he may have TB. The possible treatment along with the cost was also explained to him. Due to his inability to afford the medicines, his condition deteriorated. What added to his miseries was that even after giving his sputum sample for examination in a public hospital, the report was delayed in spite of him visiting the facility several times.
When Md Arshad, CV, Project Axshya, VHAI met Md Samsul, he could not convince him to go to the government facility for check-up at once. Md Samsul was reluctant to visit the facility on account of his past experience. It took many days and several efforts for Md Arshad to finally convince him. The CV then facilitated his sputum examination as well as an x-ray test. After he was tested positive for TB, he was immediately initiated on treatment. He is now taking the medicines regularly from the Village ASHA and is recovering well. The CV follows-up on his treatment regularly.
