Pranam
Singh is an acclaimed artist of portraiture,
and fine figurative painter of men and women
in a certain landscape. He captures the mood
of the landscape, as well as the vivid, varied
moods of his figures with a sensitivity, and
dexterity, putting all his skills to the tune
of the lines and colors. It is sheer joy to
see his portraits, and his figures, vibrating
with the inner emotions and the gaze, which
takes us to an altogether different realm of
the inner and outer reality. But the works presented
here tell a different story, and come as a surprise
to perhaps all of his admirers and discerning
viewers. |

He
has left the faces and figures behind, at least
for the moment, and has offered forms and images,
which are not inhabited by human figures and
objects. A new Pranam Singh, one would like
to exclaim! yet once the surprise has been absorbed
by the enchantment of these new works, one would
simply like to vest one’s energy in appreciating
the blending of colors and almost free flowing
forms in these works, which enthrall us.
In these paintings he seems to be following certain autosuggestions, and reflections of the ‘Seen reality’ in motion. Pranam Singh lives on the bank of Ganga at Assi Ghat in Varanasi, and had portrayed and sketched the scenes from Ghat and the river many a times but here he seems concerned only with waves, and the flags and draperies fluttering in the wind, and the colors from rituals and temples. This is not to suggest that we have to view these paintings only through these referents; as the images, and forms in the paintings do not necessarily refer to the objects mentioned above; they come into mind only because they could also be a source to these creations.
We
will notice certain predominant colors, their
patches, and gradations, like of the reds, playing
a major role here, yet the subdued colors and
submerged color areas, equally draw our attention.
The content of these sensitive works, communicates
itself directly, and we simply are in a mood
to celebrate the gestures, and the movements
of the hues and lines. These vibrant and rich
renderings by the artistes, of his inner journey,
and his explorations in pictorial space, are
a treat to the eyes and mind.
