VHAI in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Foundation organized 10 training programmes for the private medical practitioners of Indian system of Medicine in the states of Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Punjab & Rajasthan. The reasons for selecting these states are:

• All these states are classified as highly vulnerable by NACO on the basis of scale of migration, the strength of the health infrastructure and the size of population.
  
  
• There is sizeable presence of Private Medical Practitioners of ISM.
  
  
• People have lot of faith in Private Medical Practitioners of ISM.
  
  
• There is need for spreading the message of HIV infection and AIDS. The Private Medical Practitioners of ISM can play an effective role in this and also help in educating others including teenagers about AIDS. 22 core trainers and 342 PMPs of ISM & H benefited from this programme.
